Getting to West Chester University

Driving and Parking

Driving is the most direct option from all four communities. West Chester University maintains separate parking areas for students and employees, and eligibility varies by permit type. Commuter parking includes designated lots on both North and South Campus, so the most convenient route will depend on your permit and daily destination.

Residents should review the university’s current parking information before the semester begins. West Chester Borough operates additional garages, surface lots, and metered spaces, but borough parking should not be treated as a substitute for a university parking plan.

SEPTA Bus Service

SEPTA Route 104 runs between West Chester University and the 69th Street Transit Center by way of West Chester Pike. It is most relevant to residents of Highgate and East Goshen because both communities are located along that corridor. The route currently operates on weekdays, and service times and stop locations should be confirmed through SEPTA’s Route 104 schedule.

SEPTA Routes 92 and 104 also serve the West Chester Transportation Center in the borough. Depending on the trip, riders may need to walk or transfer to reach a specific campus building.

WCU Shuttles and Regional Rail

West Chester University provides free shuttle service for eligible students, faculty, and staff. Its network connects North Campus, South Campus, parts of West Chester Borough, West Goshen, and Exton Station. Shuttle routes do not necessarily stop at every apartment community, so riders should consult the university’s shuttle routes and live tracker before planning a commute.

West Chester does not have a Regional Rail station. WCU operates a weekday shuttle between campus and Exton Station, where riders can connect with SEPTA Regional Rail and Amtrak. This can be useful for trips toward Philadelphia, Paoli, Downingtown, or Harrisburg, but the university shuttle schedule should be coordinated with the train timetable.

Living Near Campus and Downtown West Chester

West Chester University’s North Campus adjoins the southern end of West Chester Borough. From campus, Downtown West Chester’s restaurants, coffee shops, stores, and services are concentrated along and around Gay Street, Market Street, and High Street.

The Metropolitan West Chester places residents closest to the downtown area. The Metropolitan West Goshen offers a more residential setting near Chester County Hospital and shopping along Paoli Pike and Route 202. Highgate and East Goshen provide locations along West Chester Pike with easier access to communities east of the borough.

Outdoor destinations in the area include Everhart Park, West Goshen Community Park, Stroud Preserve, and East Goshen Township Park. Because the four communities sit in different parts of the West Chester area, proximity to these destinations varies by property.
